Dopamine dressing with gemstone jewellery

12th May 2025

Have you heard of dopamine dressing? While dressing for joy isn’t a new idea, this trend puts a focus on boosting your mood through what you wear. The intention is to both look and feel comfortable and confident, from the outside in – something everyone deserves!

What is dopamine dressing?

This fashion trend encourages the release of the ‘feel-good’ hormone dopamine through the clothes and accessories you wear. The idea behind the movement is to choose bright coloured clothing, prints and textures that make you feel happy, confident and joyful.

While this will mean different things to different people, usually this trend involves wearing bright, happy colours such as reds, yellows, oranges and pinks often with playful patterns. Some also include textures within this, such as super soft cashmere and velvet or sparkling sequins.

While the term is most commonly used in reference to clothes, we believe it also should apply to your jewellery! Coloured gemstones have long been associated with certain powers or meanings, so this trend is the perfect excuse to add some colour to your jewellery collection.

Here are some of our favourite gemstone pieces we’re sure will spark joy.

Red gemstones

Romantic and revitalising, red gemstones are favoured for their deep hues. Rubies have a rich red colour that radiates luxury. They’ve long been believed to represent love, luck and strength.

Garnets are January’s birthstone and are said to also bring good fortune by warding off negativity. Our Azura ring allows this stunning gemstone to take centre stage.

Orange & yellow gemstones

Citrine is a variety of quartz that ranges from yellow to orange. Its warm orange tone has seen this stone linked to joy and optimism, promoting positive energy in the wearer. Some even believe it can boost confidence and creativity, too! Our Postitano tennis bracelet featuring citrine is sure to help your self-assurance soar!

Green gemstones

Gemstones in yellow and green shades make a striking choice. One of the most popular green gemstones is the emerald. This lush green gem has been linked to wisdom, healing and wealth. Peridot is another verdant stone that can range from yellowish-green to olive green. It is said to be infused with positive energy, luck and protection. Our Justin ring has an elegant design which includes natural diamonds for a balanced look.

Pink & purple gemstones

Amethyst and pink tourmaline are much-loved gemstones known for their stunning pink and purple tones. The vibrant crystal pink tourmaline symbolises love, compassion and emotional healing.

Amethyst is a variety of quartz that is deep purple in colour. It’s believed to promote calm, clarity and spiritual growth in the wearer. It has long been associated with protection and peace, often used in meditation and healing. Our Ali necklace features a pear-shaped amethyst to keep this crystal close to your heart.

Blue gemstones

Sapphire, blue topaz, aquamarine and tanzanite are prized for their beauty and deep symbolism. Sapphire, often associated with wisdom and royalty, is believed to bring mental clarity and protection. Blue topaz is linked to communication and truth, promoting calm and clear expression. Tanzanite is a rare and vibrant stone which is thought to enhance spiritual awareness and transformation. Aquamarine has a calming light blue hue, said to promote serenity and courage. Our Nori stud earrings will add a pop of pale blue to your look.
